Hello LoG Fans! 😀 Since we last updated, a TON OF PROGRESS HAS BEEN MADE AND IT’S SUPER EXCITING! Here’s what we’ve been up to:
The writing team has spent a substantial amount of time discussing philosophy and the core message of the Legend of Genji. We’re looking to world history and current events for inspiration, and we’ve been investigating different schools and cosmologies of Buddhism, Taoism, and Shintoism as well. Macky (who, if you didn’t already know, is a political science nerd) is bringing international relations theory into the mix as well!
Caitlyn finished writing a short prologue story about Kalsang and his cousin, Songtai. Keep an eye out for more information!
We’ve done a lot of worldbuilding — particularly around the Spirits and the Red Lotus.
Caitlyn and Macky did an absurd amount of research about names and name origins.
Indi, Kourtney, and Macky have mapped out 3+ possible plot sequences in the form of “skeleton plots” that provide a broad overview of protagonist and antagonist arcs. The results so far are promising, and we’re currently reviewing and critiquing each one. Once we incorporate the best ideas of each, we can move on to fleshing out the story and developing strong character arcs.
The World Descriptions are finally up-to-date!
The artists now have a fun schedule of concept art tasks and learning activities!!
Bia and Parker are storyboarding and illustrating Caitlyn’s Kalsang Story
Bia and Macky are sketching some character concept pieces.
Macky and Parker have started experimenting with props – what do the cars, TVs, and furniture look like in the 1960s Avatar-verse? We’re trying to incorporate East Asian aesthetics and lattice patterns into 1960s American and Japanese products! It’s going to be a wild ride, folks
Parker is a boss and is creating 3-D models for the artists to use as references when it comes time to draw backgrounds. Jinora’s Library, Aiko Hibana’s home in the Fire Nation, and the bedroom wing of Air Temple Island.
Social Media and Translations Team:
