Project Updates – January 31, 2020

WOO! First Project Update of the year!

Happy Christmas
Santa Iroh and the Geng! Yep, even Genji was good this year!

We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and a fantastic start to 2020! Here’s what we’ve been up to in the month of January.

After resting up over the holidays, the Legend of Genji Team started the year off right with a New Year’s “Secret Santa Iroh” gift exchange that spanned 4 continents, 5 countries, and 6 timezones. We (mostly) survived the global postal system and its absurd customs fees! It was a fun way to celebrate our friendship and a great reminder that this story — and the fans behind it — are really something special.

We of course can’t forget the other amazing #FanAvatars out there! To celebrate the new year and our friendships with other Avatar creators, Macky drew our Avatar OCs enjoying fireworks in Ba Sing Se. The Legend of Niiko, Avatar: New Era, The Legend of Vahni, Hikar Spiritual Chronicles, and Avatar: New Beginnings are all awesome projects! Go check them out!

The Writing Team

It’s official! The final scripts for Episodes 1 and 2 are complete and have been sent to the Art Team for storyboarding!! Even better, the Writers finished the first drafts of Episodes 3 and 4 and are in the process of drafting Episodes 5 and 6! We’ve learned so. much. about script-writing, dialogue, camera descriptions, the editing process, and beyond. We love watching how our ideas shift and change throughout the process– it’s awesome how a single dialogue edit can elevate a scene from good to fan-flippin’-tastic and have the whole team in tears.

While some writers are doing script drafts and edits, others are delving deeper into lore creation and the architecture of our plot. We’re working hard to build a coherent addition to the official canon, and our 1960s/70s-inspired Avatar society = infinite fun. We’ve enjoyed creating pop culture icons and a rich fictional media landscape, including a low budget science fiction TV show called Starbenders!

Art Team

In addition to concept art and visual development tasks, the artists are now storyboarding episodes 1 and 2! As we get closer to inking/coloring, you’ll see snippets and previews of our draft work! We can’t wait to give you guys sneak peeks of what we’re creating! In the meantime, to see the latest art, make sure you follow us on social media! In the coming weeks we will also be updating our concept art/ancillary art galleries, so keep an eye out!

Thank you, everyone!

  1. Hello.

    First, congratulation for your work.

And, may I ask you a question ?

  2. Keep up the good work. Your prologue was genuinely great, and I think this has potential to be successful if you keep up the great work! Wishing you the best and will be following along 🙂

  3. I am so happy about all the work you are getting !! I can only look forward to the final project by seeing all the effort you put into it!
